the most ancient lie….(a one minute meditation)

A few thoughts I had on Sunday while meditating on the things that can turn us away from God….

Being blinded by the NOW instead of embracing the ALWAYS

Preferring the THIS in favor of the EVERYTHING

In one very real sense, this is what Adam and Eve both did and the rest of us have been imitating ever since.  Every time we choose sin over righteousness, we choose the temporal over the eternal.  This is the most ancient lie passed on to us by the being who first chose it.

This perspective is pride as it puts our own understanding over that of God’s.

It is arrogance as it presupposes that we can be right at God’s expense.

It is the ultimate selfishness as it puts our own desires ahead of all others.

This lie, as long as we choose to believe it, will corrupt our choices, poison our thinking and ultimately doom us to failure.  It is a trap that destroys us because “in the day we eat of it, [we]…. will surely die.”

The remedy?  Believe God, thank Him for his provision in Christ and live accordingly.
